Princess Charlotte marked her 11th birthday last week, and as royal tradition goes, a new portrait of the young royal was released to celebrate the occasion. Alongside the photo, clips featuring moments with her family were also shared.
Charlotte, who sits behind Prince George in the line of succession, celebrated her big day on Saturday, May 2.
Her parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, also posted video footage thanking the public for their birthday wishes.
In the clips, Charlotte could be seen enjoying a range of activities — playing with the family dogs, taking a boat ride, writing messages in the sand, and even bowling a cricket ball.
A “Fun” and Free-Spirited Upbringing
Speaking to Express, body language expert Judi James noted that Charlotte appears to be growing up in a joyful and relaxed environment, similar to her mother’s childhood.
“Charlotte has been born into royal life, but this video shows that her sense of freedom and her options and choices are potentially limitless. She’s not being shoe-horned into formal clothing or behaviour,” James said.
“In these clips Charlotte seems to be shown enjoying much the same childhood as her mother: fun, sporty and in the hub of a loving family.”
She added: “There’s no sense from her relaxed and confident-looking body language and smile that she’s being asked to perform awkwardly for the camera here, but there are signs of a girl with leadership potential who knows her own mind and who is being given the freedom to express that.”

Concerns Behind the Scenes
While the footage delighted royal fans, it has reportedly also raised concerns within the family.
According to a source cited by Woman’s Day, William and Kate are uneasy about the growing level of public attention surrounding their daughter.
“They have been taken aback by the level of interest in Charlotte’s birthday, which has felt somewhat obsessive,” the source claimed.
“William and Kate are genuinely uncomfortable about ‘Charlotte mania’ and the huge following she’s getting. But it may be too late to stop it.”
Worries About the Future
The source went on to say that Charlotte is meeting every expectation placed on her, but that success may also be adding pressure at a young age.
“Charlotte’s doing everything [Kate and William] asked her to be kind, gracious and well-behaved, to absolute perfection – and it’s working,” they said.
“She’s not going to let her folks start ‘hiding her away’, but Kate’s worried about the enormous pressure she’s taking on – she’s not even a teenager yet!”
As Princess Charlotte continues to grow up in the public eye, her parents appear to be navigating the delicate balance between allowing her a normal, happy childhood and managing the intense global attention that comes with royal life.
